Vertical fish tanks have recently become a hit in a lot of house holds. A long time ago, creating vertical fish tanks posed a challenge because the water pressure builds up the taller the tank, and this will eventually cause the aquarium glass to crack. But these days, with new technologies emerging in the field of glass reinforcement, better sturdier glass and even acrylic has allowed aquarium designers to produce taller and broader variations that they once could not. This allowed a lot of creative and space maximization with the cylindrical and hexagonal tanks.
But though they look awesome, they do however pose a problem when it comes to fish tank decorations. Any fish tank decor you place in there would occupy the base of the aquarium but leave the rest of it looking bare and empty. No matter how tall the tank ornaments are, they would not sufficiently fill up the room. And then, if you do manage to get some form of decorations that is tall such as driftwood and place it in the tank, it will eat a lot of the swim space meant for the fish. Being vertical, the tanks are generally very narrow.
However, if you do have one, there is a way to decorate them superbly and that is by combining base aquarium decor with floating ones.
Base Aquarium Decor For Vertical Tanks
In a vertical aquarium, the decorations that you place at the base generally go unnoticed. Is is because the main view is in the middle of the tank. To compensate for this, you may want to select tank accessories that are very colorful. Then, to make them lively and fill up some space, you should arrange the rocks or ornaments to form a hill, with the peak directly in the middle of the tank base.
Another important factor that you need to consider is to provide your fish with a cave. Vertical aquariums leave the fish exposed to scrutiny all day. The constant attention that the fish gets will eventually make it feel stressed and they would want to hide away and rest. So ensure that the base decor provides the fish an opening to enter when they feel the need.
Floating Aquarium Decorations
With the base of the fish tank settled, your next step is to have some form of fish tank decoration that floats on the top and hangs towards the bottom. Some good ideas for this would be floating plants. These plants have long roots that hang downwards filling up the empty spaces with their roots. These plants will not just be thee for decorative purposes, but if you do have fish fry in the future, they will also provide cover for the fry as they grow.
These days you would also be able to get tank ornaments that float freely around the tank. These ornaments are made to look like fish and even have hinged tails. As the water cycles around the tank, these artificial fish seem …

When it comes to finding a great look for your home that is both functional and eye appealing, you simply cannot beat interior Louver doors. Typically seen in bi-fold fashion on closets, these doors are now beginning to be appreciated in many other applications around the home, for good reason. Whether you are on the hunt for a door that doubles as an accent piece for your décor or simply need to improve the air movement in your home, Louvre doors will not let you down.
Convenience in Tight Places
Like with other styles of bi-folding doors, there is a certain level of ease that comes with this style of Louver doors. They can be used in relatively tight places without completely blocking the flow of traffic because they do not swing open. However, unlike a solid-front style, this slotted variety offers much more. The introduction of standard cut doors with the attractive shutter like design also allows for a consistency throughout a hallway or entry, so closets, bedrooms, and bathrooms share the unique style.
Louver doors provide superior air flow due to their design, whether they are hiding a large closet or operating as a standard bedroom entryway. The great thing about this is that it allows warm or cool air to travel between rooms, even when the door is shut. Of course, for the closet, this is nice so the air doesn’t get stale around clothing, blankets, or toiletries. For bedrooms or other spaces within the room, a Louver door can represent cost savings and comfort as air conditioning or heat easily passes through.
Proper airflow between spaces also means better ventilation. Would you like to close off a utility closet? Do you have a mud room that tends to be damp or a finished basement? A Louvre door might be the perfect option. It provides the ventilation and airflow that some systems require and can cut down on moisture by moving air over it. That’s not the best part, either; this style of door can serve several important functions, but, more importantly, it looks great in the process.
There is no doubt about it; a little detail can go a long way toward making a space beautiful. While a classic front door will serve the purpose of dividing the house, it doesn’t have the same pizzazz as this style. A Louvre door can work with nearly any décor, transitioning easily between homeowners and between changing trends, always offering a sense of interest and beauty.…
Continuing with this series of articles giving you insight into where you live, in the meantime consider this: the house or apartment of where you live, even the block of land chose you! That’s right, even though you might think you chose where you live I have news for you, it chose you…
Developing this a little further, how many times have you heard (it may’ve even happened to you) of someone falling in love with a house but unable to afford it, yet – the finances became available. And, of those who had all their finances organised unable to proceed to the sale for one reason or another. It’s happened to me and I’m sure it’s happened to you – it’s all about the where you live being where you’re meant to be – lessons to be learnt – Karma to unfold or a journey to begin.
House Number Four: This is the most unpredictable of all the house numbers – with one crisis after another. The occupants often visit psychiatrists or seek someone to talk to! Expect your life to move in a completely different direction from what you had in mind if moving in here, take a tip and go with the flow for life is changing in ways you cannot predict.
Aquarians will enter your life (you may be one yourself), but as long as they are not born on Jan 26, Feb 8, Feb 17 you can let them in! Life will offer many moments where you’ll be called upon to help or counsel others. This address may even look different to others in the area or the occupants considered a little ‘strange.’ It also attracts those involved with the physically handicapped! Some personal comments: I’ve often seen this number to have all the electronic gadgets, computers, plasma televisions, etc. Another thing I mention to people moving to this address is to look after their back and to invest in a decent bed. Linked to the planet Uranus in Astrology and has connections with all things Astrological along with the 11th house in the Astrological Chart (see my previous series)
When we talk about the ‘unusual’ you have to consider the actual appearance of the building or its colour, even the occupations or occupants could be considered ‘unusual’ either by their looks, careers or something ‘harder to define.’ Let me give you a personal observation for this number crops up in my life more than I would like to admit and when it does and did I’ve noticed and notice that my life plans-goals-objectives seemingly alter of their own accord. I want to go one way – life wants to go another. Call this Fate or Destiny, call it what you like but I fully believe the place (s) we live are the place (s) we are meant to be living at for the energy / vibration has attracted you – just like a magnet (being a magnet) attracts iron filings and forms patterns. I …
Ventilation is one of the basic requirements of a good house. As fresh air is a must to ensure the health of those who live in the house good ventilation is a must. In tropical climes it is not difficult to follow ventilation options when building a house. You can incorporate a lot of windows and they will provide the necessary ventilation with natural wind blowing. In countries where there are harsh winters it is not possible to have many windows in a house. Even if you do have you must close then and stay indoors during winter.
Now you are faced with a problem on how to ventilate your house. The best way is to expel some air from the areas where the air gets contaminated or become stale. Exhaust fans are most suitable way to expel the stale air from the house.
Kitchen is one of the places where the air gets polluted due to air being contaminated with cooking. If you are using a gas stove naturally some oxygen will be burnt. Unless you have a chimney from which the carbon dioxide is expelled into the out side of the house it will remain in the kitchen polluting the air. You must force this polluted air out with a window exhaust fan to allow fresh air to come into the house.
Your bathroom is the other place where the air will become damp and stale. Here too you must find a solution. The smells of soaps deodorants washing powers and everything else used in there will get mixed with air and the moisture from the evaporating water will make the walls damp. To solve this problem the best thing is to fix a window exhaust fan and make proper ventilation.
Once the ventilation is ensured in those places where the air gets contaminated your house will be a better place to live.…

You would think that a Fitted Kitchen will cost pretty much the same throughout the year, and to a certain extent you would be correct. However despite the seemingly endless “Sales” there are definitely better times to buy Fitted Kitchens.
The best time to buy kitchens is… when they want your business most!
The whole UK fitted kitchen industry revolves around four “Sale” periods as follows:
January – Winter Sale starting Boxing Day – must end last weekend in Janruary
February – Winter Sale magically extends to the end of February
March – No promotions. (Goods have to be shown at “full” price for 28 days before being discounted)
April – Spring Sale starts – coincides with Easter and additional Bank Holiday “specials”
May – Spring Sale magically extends to the end of May
June – No promotions. (Goods have to be shown at “full” price for 28 days before being discounted)
July – Summer Sale starts – must end last weekend in June
August – Summer Sale magically extends to the end of August (Usually the August Bank Holiday weekend)
September – No promotions. (Goods have to be shown at “full” price for 28 days before being discounted)
October – Autumn Sale starts – must end last weekend in October
November – Autumn Sale magically extends to the end of November (to capture the last “fits” before Christmas)
December – No promotions. (Goods have to be shown at “full” price for 28 days before being discounted)
Which brings us full circle back to the next Winter Sale – which will start on Boxing Day.
It is worth noting that December is the month that most kitchen retailers increase their prices (by 3 to 4%)
So, armed with the information above we can deduce when they want our business the most, and therefore… the best time to buy Fitted Kitchens.
These are all good times to buy, but if you want the best possible deal on your new kitchen…
Buy your kitchen in “Non Sale” periods … why?
So we say the best …
Buying a copper kitchen hood vent can add such an amazing visual appeal in your kitchen area. Many people are under the impression that buying copper items in a hot and steamy kitchen area is a recipe for disaster, but the truth is that this is a strong, durable and beautiful material that will provide you with years of use and enjoyment.
Another myth about copper kitchen hood vents is that they are difficult to clean and maintain. In fact, they are probably easier than many of the other materials on the market today and with a long life span, you can keep them looking beautiful with just a few minutes of work.
To clean your copper kitchen hood vents you will need a few items, you will want to have two cloths and a bottle of copper cleaner, if your hood isn’t lacquered. Speak to your supplier to identify what copper cleaner they recommend, this way you are assured that you are taking the best care of the hood, ensuring it will last for many years to come.
Remember over time your copper kitchen hood vents are going to start to change color, this is part of their charm and what makes them unique. With a little bit of elbow grease, you can have them gleaming and ready to show off to family and friends.
Wet one of the cloths and wring it out, you want it damp, not dripping with water. Wipe over the hood to remove any dust and dirt. Removing the dust and dirt only makes it easier when it comes to really cleaning and polishing it up to look as good as new.
The next step is to take the copper cleaner and follow the instructions to the letter. The instructions will be determined by the type of cleaner you have purchased. In most instances you will be able to wipe this over the hood. Some of them turn into a paste, others will change color as they dry.
Rub the copper cleaner all around the copper kitchen hood vents and then allow them to sit for a while. Ideally you want to leave the cleaner a good few minutes, giving it time to get to work. The bottle you have purchased will give you some estimated times, which can be anything from five minutes.
From here you will want to take a clean lint free cloth and gently wipe away all the cleaner. Ensure you cover the entire area, removing all the dust, dirt and grease from the copper kitchen hood vents. With the vents cleaned, you can now polish the hood to leave it gleaming and looking spectacular, making that great impression in your kitchen.
Ensure you clean the copper kitchen hood vents on a regular basis. Cleaning them regularly doesn’t only making cleaning a quick and effective process, but it also ensures the life span of the item. You have probably bought these hood vents because of their visual appeal; not looking …
The latest trend in interior design, high gloss kitchen splashbacks are a colourful and modern alternative to glass splashbacks offering a flawless and long lasting finish.
The high gloss is created by a layer of clear acrylic which is coextruded over a layer of coloured acrylic. The remarkable light admittance of the clear acrylic allows the colour to show through, resulting in a vibrancy and depth of colour not seen in other acrylic sheets.
Plexiglas Hi-Gloss acrylic can be mounted as a splashback around the kitchen behinds sinks and work surfaces, though it should not be used behind a hob or other heat source. Exposure to high temperatures can warp acrylic over time, so if the high gloss is to be installed behind a hob a heat-shielding material such as toughened glass should also be used to protect the acrylic.
High gloss acrylic sheets are fastened to a wall or supporting structure with a high-strength double-sided tape along with crosslinking silicone to ensure a flawless and long lasting finish with no distortion to the surface of the sheet. However before the sheet is installed there are a number of preparations to make to both the sheet and the substrate to ensure the splashback looks its best.
Top Tip: High gloss acrylic sheet will be delivered with a masking film on the surface to protect from scratches and marks – don’t remove this film until the sheet is installed!
You may wish to drill and cut the acrylic sheet before installing to make holes for plug sockets, pipes or other wall features which will interrupt your splashback. To do this extreme care must be taken to prevent the sheet from cracking or breaking, so it is recommended that only pre-ground twist drill bits that are designed for use with acrylic sheet are used. When drilling the sheet, the drill bit should be positioned slowly and carefully pushed through. Slow the feed as the bit reaches the other side to prevent chipping of the coloured layer, and it may be beneficial to use a piece of wood as a supporting material. To cool the acrylic simply apply tap water to the area that has been drilled.
To saw the sheet, non-vibrating high speed machine should be used to achieve the cleanest-cut edges which may then be polished to restore the high gloss lustre. Circular hand and table saws may be used, but should only protrude slightly beyond the surface of the sheet to minimise vibration and movement. Jigsaws are also suitable for cutting high gloss acrylic sheets, and will effectively and neatly saw the plastic if only straight-tooth blades are used and if care is taken to place the shoe firmly on the masking film. This will safeguard the acrylic from unwanted chipping, preserving the edge for the most professional finish to the splashback. Once again, tap water may be used to cool the acrylic after cutting.
Top Tip: Measure twice, cut once!
Once your colourful high gloss acrylic sheet has been …
